Were panning down and across the tops of a futuristic city skyline about
twenty years into the future,
from left to right, catching the tops of HIVEscrapers in detail. Theyre
alien looking buildings shaped like pods or
organic bee nests of bio-architecture growing over the top of old 20th Century
skyscrapers like a virus, giving
everything an organic, rounded look, like an Art Deco 70s sci-fi future. Theyre
the Zaibatsu buildings, Arabian
HIVEscraper communities that live and work sealed within their Bio-Tek enclaves,
hermetically sealed off from
contagion and nano swarms in their cyber world.
Blimps, a new smaller and sleek, compact type used in the communications web,
about the size of a large
bus, with running video adverts on their sides are hooked up to the top of half
a dozen of the larger HIVEscrapers.
A web of floating security satellite pods about the size of basketballs, the
I-Spys, clunky looking like techno land
mines with circuitry spikes hover, here and there, the night stars beyond. Also
a few stray advertising holos are
around this far up, with stat pictures of the previous ads on them like pop
up web advert balloons just floating
around with no visible propulsion system.
The Data.NET texts arent in caption boxes but are overlaid on the
page like computer type on a screen,
like data overlays. The backgrounds of the whole page are covered in data and
a hieroglyph pictogram language
(see reference) overlapping each other so that some of the text is in larger
type and is overlapping the smaller font
type on the page, a very info-dense background.

right still, through a thick future cityscape all lit up at night, covered in

and now we can see that the HIVEscrapers from the last page have been bio-grown
over the top of old 20th style
buildings, the bottoms of a few HIVEZ visible only at the top of the panel,
slightly overlapping with the old buildings,
growing into them like a plastic-plant hybrid. Down at this level there are
more 20thC style skyscrapers of varying
sizes, some with no HIVEZ on the top. Company logos and holo advertising are
prominent everywhere, on the flat
surfaces of the old buildings as well as real time video feeds for products
and commercials on the smartpainted
canvases of architecture. Enjoy Coca-Cola giant holos on the sides of buildings,
McDonalds golden arches M,
INTEL, IBM, GENETIX, CISCO, MICROSOFT, APPLE, MOTOROLA, NOKIA, AFFYMATRIX, AMGEN,

CORPORATE LOGOS on all the buildings, every building is branded with the owners
symbol, some real world
ones, others future ones based on the style of existing company logos. Perhaps
theyre designed to look like crop
circle designs, organic molecular links, cyber design for the new Bio-Tek companies.
Many of the old skyscraper buildings are also being used like screens for live
video feed ads. Basically surf
the web a bit and look at the adverts design and style and then apply it to
the sides of the buildings; thats what
theyre being used for: webvertising. Click through boxes and giant cursor
arrows, running stockmarket share prices,
the latest Data.NET news update headlines scrolling down, two for one
offer deals, text and logos everywhere,
.com, .net, .kidz etc company addresses everywhere. The night sky is littered
with large floating holo adverts,
curved like caption boxes and pop-up ads on the Net, floating there with no
visible propulsion systems. Its about
20 years in the future Melbourne, Australia. (see references).
Theres also dozens of I-Spy security satellites floating about at varying
levels monitoring everything,
theyre about the size of basketballs, with a triangle lens and have a
large camera eye in the triangle as their central
feature, maybe ones floating past in the foreground, watching the reader.

Panel 1. Were still panning down past the skyscrapers and their advertising,
to where the off-liners live, to the rooftops of the CENTRAL ZONE, the old world
buildings. Computer screen like icons and a XY coordinates targeting grid are
overlaying the panel again like were looking through a computer interface.
The layout here is a vast urban cityscape of the near future, cooking smoke
rising up in little tufts from most of the rooftops as the smells and flavours
of the bustling city emerge. Were looking across the rooftops at a cross
section of a couple of dozen buildings all the same size, about six stories
tall, so together they create a flat rooftop vista. It has an urban contemporary
yet slightly different feel to it all, like some foreign city about 20 years
into the future, with a distinct Asian edge - curved roofs and gutter walkways
etc, but nothing too overt. It could be some gritty part of L.A., Melbourne
or Shanghai for all we know. Theres rectangular and triangular skylights
and a few flat, transparent domes with cross braces crisscrossing every roof,
an exotic type of look on each roof.
The scene looks lived in because of the smoke here and there, like a future
Victorian village or old pictures
of English mining towns all cramped together. The skylights on the roofs act
as solar panel receptors, no TV
antennas or chimneys in sight, although there is the ubiquitous presence of
holographic advertising billboards on
the side of the buildings and smartpainted screens on the walls of some of the
larger buildings in the background,
the bottom of a giant PEPSI logo prominent...

fire, a dog looking creature roasting on the spit. Theyre sleeping rough
, homeless, but its a hot night with the global warming and theyre all
wearing bright and breezy Chinese garb, loose pants and vests, three quarter
cargo pants with lots of pockets but dirty and ripped, dishevelled, strange
symbol icons over them like corporate sponsors symbols, variations on the Nike
Swoop and Adidas triangles, what I abbreviate from here on in as DnB wear (after
the Drum N Bass techno music/fashion style popular now). Three men, both in
the 50s, one Asian woman in her 40s, two kids, all mutated or bio-altered slightly;
the most common bio-alteration here and in further crowd shots of the CENTRAL
ZONE are the people coloured red and yellow and green and blue with bio-dyes
to protect them from the high UV.
The CORPZ test all their new bio-products on the poor/off-liners. One man is
squatting stoking the
fire, hes got no nose and half his face and right side of his body is
just missing, eaten away at. Another guy with a
beard has four arms and is arguing with another man, veins standing out on his
neck as he points his finger at the
guy, whos in the process of stabbing at him with a laser knife. The knife
guy is glowing in the dark. The Asian
woman, looking like shes seen it a million times before, has one baby
suckling at her breast, no eyes, another one
hiding behind her, a little girl with pigtails and an elephant man like deformed
bone structure face.

out of his forefinger being transmitted from his skin to the glass, its
how they graffiti these days with smartpaint. He has long hands and even longer
curved fingernails with dirt under them. Chunky mechanical rings with smartpaint
nozzles are on the end of his fingers. Hes finger painting.

tags chasing each other and trying to eat each other like Pac Man eating power
points . When they do the words and styles merge, forming new patterns endlessly
like fractals.

Panel 4. Weve pulled back to see GOLUM at the window, now turning
to face us on profile, cropped head to elbows. All of them have Bio-Tek slots
by their ears that act as interfaces for the Bio-CHIPZ they get from NEMO. These
are basically exterior versions of implants that everyone, not just Toy Death,
have in this future, as ubiquitous as mobile phones are now. Everyone has these
slots by their ears that embed into their skin, but only Toy Death gang members
have the trepanning hole that will exponeniate the effects of the CHIPZ they
take; trepanning makes them permanently high like kids at play.

What were doing on this page is following the new PLAY smartpaint
graffiti tag around the room from
Blus POV with thedata overlays, keeping the moving graffiti for the focus.
We see everyone else from incidental
angels, like the jerky out of sync NYPD Blue type direction, the panel borders
angular. The graffiti tags are like
Warhol pop art explosions behind them on the walls providing an evolving visual
backdrop. Around the squat, mixed
in with all this crap on the floor are toys from all eras, yo-yos, a racing
car set, action figures, Furbies, robot dogs
and MEKpets, Tonka trucks, a pogo-stick, lots of stuffed toys all ripped open
and the stuffing everywhere like
theyve been slashed open, dozens of headless naked Barbie dolls, robotics
& wires hanging out their necks, some
still walking around and moving, etc. On one of the walls theres also
braces holding some laser-tag type game,
a lazer-tag holographic bow and arrow set. Just as much of each as you can fit
in the background of each panel in
this whole scene on this and the next pages. Were introducing Toy Death
in their grimy squat. Phat, big New York
style lettering graffiti abounds, especially all the names of the gang members
since its their turf: GOLUM,
Snarx, Skatch , 704 are visible moving and
writhing around, and the new one, PLAY , is chasing them.
Panel 1. The PLAY tag is passing 704s now on the wall and
surrounds it totally in a circle, like paint on a slide or a petri dish. Maybe
the letters form teeth and start eating the other tag... In front of it in this
panel we can see a few grimy mattresses on the bare boards floor which people
are sitting on, but we can only see 704s head and upper body in this shot,
the Bio-Tek nodule over his trepanning hole prominent.

Panel 2. Panning down along the wall to where Snarx sits, following the morphing
PLAY graffiti down. The walls are brick with peeling plaster and grime and bullet
holes, graffiti, wooden floorboards, no curtains or decorations, all very spartan
and utilitarian. Snarx is down flat resting on a couple of large cushions on
the floor. Hes got a pair of scissors and a small bowl in front of him
with a grainy mix in it. Snarxs skin has been gene fashioned to have scales
all over like a crocodile, thick chunky scales that protect him from the heat
and also injury. Hes also got a split forked tongue and reptile eyes,
all done cosmetically. Hes tall, sitting with his knees up, with the posture
and body language of a basketball player, and is wearing an alien head/Jolly
Roger skull bandana around his head, loose fitting pants, a black t-shirt with
the slogan No Fear on it and no shoes. Around him on the floor cigarette
butts are everywhere, the occasional ashtray, one in the shape of an open coffin
with a skeleton hand that collects the butts down by his feet; its a crashpad.
Theres open doorways leading to a kitchen to the left and another room
to the right, but maybe we cant see them yet.

Panel 3. Still following the graffiti as the focus caterpillaring along the
wall with Skatch in the foreground. Skatchs short, under five foot tall
and covered in hair of all different types in patches with shaved areas prominent.
Hes wearing phutro grey Calvin Kleins with little side pockets on the
boxers, like a DNB fashion tweak, a plasticy look to them. Hes in brand
logo sandals and not much else because of the heat and his fur- hes a
SKIN merchant, grows hair for money, sells his skin time to bio-leasers. Skatch
is growing dna hair patterns, hes a factory for Yak fur, authentic, he
sells it on the street. Hes got a long smooth bone that looks more like
a sharks tooth through his nose and an indigenous, angry primitive look. Hes
pretty urban feral and dusty looking, like he hasnt showered in a very
long time. Also lots of piercings all over his face and stretched ears, maybe
on close ups of his hands we can see metal rod and barbell implants under the
skin. Hes about 14, and even though hes young and small he looks
nasty and dangerous. Hes exhaling bong smoke into the air, looking pretty
damn relaxed there, pupils all big and a hazy smile on his face, Snarx to the
left of him lying down on the mattress, 704 to the left of Snarx against the
wall.

Panel 1. Behind all their heads again, the viral graffitis swarming and
eating weaker tags, merging with them and taking on their style and colour into
their expanding surface area. The SKATCH tag moves, maybe like a
flat caterpillar with some of the letters curving up like its inching its way
across the wall, running from the PLAY tag. Skatch laughs and passes
the bong across Snarx, lying down with his feet to the wall and facing the ceiling,
to 704, a big cheesy grin on his face, smoke curling around them everywhere.

2. 704s big and tall and dumb hillbilly looking, but menacing, too. Dark
skinned about 15. Hes got a lot of cyber extensions running along his
spine and up his neck , with exoskeleton MEK gloves with brass knuckles holding
a bong, lighting it with the other gloves finger lighter. Its motors
are moving his fingers by themselves, its remote controlled and does all the
work. Hes got an almost shaved head with symbols shaved in, or the numbers
704 in large green lcd font on his forehead. He looks mean and dumb looking,
massively ripped muscles from 704, the synthetic bio-chip growth hormone that
hes hooked on.

a data overlay as the gloves respond to
his voice activated command. All the tech of the future is voice activated and

tag is crawling after the other tags left to right, having eaten Skatchs.

Panel 2. Close up on Blu - hes looking extremely worried as Snarx runs
the lazer over his head and the last of his short crewcut hair falls around
his face towards the ground. Hes being initiated into the gang via a trepanation
ceremony - they going to drill a hole through the top of the skull to increase
the flow of oxygen to the brain and restore the childlike sense of awe and wonder
and take him off-line from his chip implants.

Panel 3. Close up on Blus head and Snarxs scaly hands as he calmly
marks where theyre about to drill, drawing a big black X on
Blus skull (with a finger ink jet mek device like the smartpaint device
GOLUM had) towards the top of the head over the fontanelle region. Theres
a barcode like chip/circuitry pattern there already, the chip that provides
continuous connection to the .NETS that theyre going to drill through,
severing his connection. Maybe this is from slightly above or from Snarxs
POV.
Traditionally trepanning is through the fontanelle part of the skull enclosing
the brain where the
bone has hardened and reduced blood flow and the childlike high
produced when the skull was still soft, which is
what the operations out to reclaim.

one or two at a time from Blus POV, but theyve become warped like
outlines only, shimmering and blurring as Blu faints from the pain and loss
of blood.

Everything speeds up here before it disintegrates. The panels become small and
thin, getting thinner as they go left to right top to bottom across the two
pages like theyre speeding up and fragmenting and lots of them, frozen
moments on this page before the splash on page twenty.
All of the panels are set against the bleed of all the toys in the room and
junk and rubbish littered everywhere, products, so many products everywhere
the floor covered in them, close ups on individual toys and peoples faces
as we pan around the room from Blus POV as everything fragments and blurs
together. Some of the panels can be stat shots of each other repeating and stretched
and computer manipulated to get the rhythm and flow of fast kinetic energy,
with distorted/computer effects towards the end.Panel 1. Close up on the operation
from GOLUMs POV looking down at Blus head. GOLUMs
gloves are now covered in blood as he has to turn the trepanning laser corkscrew
device, one hand gripping it and turning as the small laser like teeth cut a
hole about the size of a coin in Blus skull.

the whole scene a slightly
psychedelic look. Were on an extreme worms eye view looking up from beneath

PAGE TWENTY ONE (four panels)
Panel 1. Pull back to see Blu in the chair, maybe spittle hanging from his mouth,
blood totally streaming down his face. The trepanning hole is visible at the
front/top of Blus head, where Snarx is standing, affixing a small, bright,
Bio-Tek plug around the top to help it breathe. Basically it just looks like
a nodule sticking out slightly at the top front. All of them have them in the
same spot on their heads, theyve all been trepanned, and their heads are
on the right angles here so we see them all together to get the message across
that hes had done to him what theyve all had done to them, theyre
all drilled and off-line. Skatch is loosening the bar from his mouth, taking
it out. The restraining headset has also been removed and is hanging from a
wire or cord loosely. Blus biosuit wont stain although bloods
all over his face and neck and collecting in a pool at his feet, mixing with
the rubbish.

Panel 2. From Blus POV as he watches the crew. Snarx and 704 are steadying
him, holding an arm each, hes happy, laughing, in a bit of a daze. Skatch
and GOLUM are standing looking on, maybe slightly altered, everything
lighter and more cartoony, less realistic detail, or subtle CG visual effects
over the top of the figures, coloured, no black lines.

Panel 3. GOLUM is standing in the foreground now, smiling, still smoking
the almost burnt out I-Ching cigarette. His gloves are covered in blood and
hes taking them off, handing them to Skatch, the drill in his right hand
already. GOLUM has a mad, crazy glint in his eye and is showing off two
sharp canines at the front of his teeth like a vampire, smiling. Its from
Blus POV and his trepannings changed him - everythings gone
cartoon like, but not quite. Like all the little details have melted from the
room, all the fine details and everythings gone smooth or the resolutions
not as good. Like an ever so slightly cartoony, less detailed look, same as
last panel.

Panel 4. GOLUMs put on his leopard skin smartcoat, his cane and
top hat in one hand, the other reaching up to the wall. Behind GOLUM is
what looks like a hunting bow on the wall, but without the string. Its
another ubiquitous laser product with Lazer-Injun written in the same
font as the other lazer products on it. Everythings sharp and clear like
after a fresh rainfall - no solid blacks when from Blus trepanned POV
for a while.

PAGE TWENTY TWO - TWENTY THREE (six panels)
Everythings accentuated once youve been trepanned, elevated, enhanced,
fraying round the edges into
distortion and this should be reflected in the panel borders or lack of them,
or the lack of black lines or the special
effects, Photoshop BLUR filters on the backgrounds. They feel alive and ready
to take anything on. Everythings
speeded up in this segment, like on fast forward, blurring motion all around,
a jerky cut between all the panels or
something, some blurred motion look, maybe no separate borders at all just their
movement across the page and
the next. Panel 1. We cut to a series of aerial shots of the future CENTRAL
ZONE at night, all the buildings down here a maximum of six stories and flat,
Asian edged curved rooftops overshadowed in the backgrounds by the larger skyscrapers
and HIVES. Blus jumping from one roof to another, leaping across the gaps,
below him six stories of empty alleyway. Maybe shot from underneath in a thin
strip across the top. Hes being chased by the rest of Toy Death though
we dont see them till the next panel. If we can see his face its
grinning madly.

Panel 2. Blu lands on a rooftop and keeps running along it, multiple image ghosting,
staccato shots of him like in slow motion, his back to us, the city skyline
all lit up at night alongside him as the curved CENTRAL ZONE rooftop come to
an end, holos lighting up the night sky. The building hes on is about
to finish and hes still running, hes going to get to the edge of
it and jump to the next roof.

on the building hes just left, his Monster Bootz prominent.

and cartwheels and leaps across the gap, catching up to Blu and showing how
fast he can be. Above the CENTRAL ZONE the towering monoliths of the skyscrapers,
I-Spys everywhere and the night sky black with a smattering of stars.

decorations and and we want a sense of vertigo and danger here, an extreme visual
plunge, detailed to see people hanging out of windows on the way down, DnB type
fashion, looking at up him shouting . GOLUM puts his cane out in front
of Blu as he slips, pulling him back from the edge. Theres a fire escape
to their right side leading down the building facing the main street, the PEPSI
logo still overshadowing them with neon.

Longshot. GOLUM on the now visible fire escape, with his back to us, has
opened his zip and is pissing
down to the street below, his cane up and adjusting his hat on a cocky angle,
really letting loose and comfortable
body language, shoulders back. We cam see the stream of urine flowing down to
the crowd in detail. The overall
look is near future Chinatown on a Saturday night, with lots of shadows and
darkness giving it a gritty realistic future
look. Perhaps the only lighting is from the Chinese lanterns that look like
flowers closed up at night, but theyre
phorescent and giving off light - theres none of the usual visual hooks
of the 20th century like streetlamps or traffic
lights only electric transparent cars with three wheels on the road, like i-Mac
shells, one person bio-rickshaws,
people in kinetic NRG bootz like GOLUMs Monster Bootz powering them.
The occasional hoverbikes zooming
by or maybe the egg cars very high above in their sky traffic. Corporate logos
on everyone and buildings.
Holo advertising is everywhere again, like a web page design, even the techno
template panel border
coming back with pop-up ads and offers, latest stock updates, etc. The weathers
always hot and the streets are
dirty and concrete and always bustling any time of night. Theres what
appears to be Chinese lanterns hanging
from shop fronts (but they glow of their own accord without a candle inside,
and float in the air) and people of all
nationalities, very multicultural, Caucasians and Asians, Europeans with that
drum n bassy future fashion look,
puffy vests , trainers, three quarter length pants with lots of pockets, hi-tech
sunglasses and logos on all their
clothing, statements and logos on t-shirts, holo-words and pictures rolling
across their fashion, especially the full
body holosuits - a real melting pot walking the streets and shopping, drinking
and laughing, though theyre probably
quite small. Many in the crowd are coloured red and yellow and blue and green
with bio-dyes and other skin pattern
textures, others genetically altered.
Streetwalker bio-altered girls with animal skinprints in next to nothing fluffy
lingerie and Bio-Tek feathered
angels wings are chatting up clients; burly shopkeepers are tending to pig and
chicken and, notably, dog carcasses
hanging from hooks out front of their shops. The drones are wearing full one
piece smartsuits like Star Trek,
smartsuits with holo advertising on them. All the street kidz of the day have
Bio-Tek, generic alterations, all except
the smartsuited Drones, whom have cyber sensory extensions and the like but
keep themselves pure. Thats what
their HIVE mind preaches. Genetic purity. The fashion is very contemporary with
a few future tweaks - the climate
is perpetually hotter so remember theyre always in summer clothing, light
and breezy that billows out at the legs
like Chinese pants, drum n bassy type sleeveless puffy vests over bare skin,
tattoos and piercings everywhere, lots
of shaved heads or topknots and dreads. All the fashion is cyber smartwear with
circuitry patterns overlaid on it and
cyber battery packs and extensions. And here and there in the crowd every odd
person has a cybernetic
enhancement or replacement part, a robotic arm or leg, an eye replacement and
the like, very rough prototypes,
big and bulky and maybe even with external power pack with batteries attached.
Theres lots of younger people in one piece clothing like a cross between
tracksuits and Star Trek suits but
with a streetwise feel to them - Adidas stripes down the side and up over the
chest, big raver boots with kinetic
motors in the heels, etc, a cross between jogging and clubwear latex outfits.
Also more traditional Chinese type
garments with circuitry patterns, all smartfashion.

about as big as a VW, but vertical, all encasing an elderly MOOGIE, and dust
and papers are blowing up in its high speed wake.The Mek looks like an
insect type bio-like metal. Its like a giant insect walking device, two
large feet with a carapace carriage the MOOGIE sits surrounded by metal ribs
in her plastiglass bubble, like a techno womb, transparent gel bag under her
threaded with wires and fluids feeding throughout the Walker, linking them 2GETHER.
Very tekno/Manga Japanese/Battletech looking, yet its still only a robo extension
of an electric wheelchair device, a BMW icon logo prominent like on the front
of a car. The ambient Walker is also alive with sapient tek - theyve
all got personalities like animals. Its like a big dog trying to protect its
master, its body movements are fluid and organic.

sets have data overlay round inset boxes naming them with their trademark

coaching the trepidatious Blu, below them the alley goes down about another
twelve feet ending in an interconnecting geodesic mini-dome aeroboard city of
transient homeless people, like cardboard but shiny reflective surface interconnecting
like a bees hive. The transients are dressed in shabby one piece slacksuits,
not holo, the ones out of their aeroboard houses look up at them. Theyre
cooking little fires and roasting cats on them, sitting round the open fire,
eating. Their faces are all ravaged and eaten away and bodies mutated with bio-tek
additions, they glow in the dark and have elephantitis of the head, rear up
on insect hind legs and various ones have animal skins and features, giraffe
heads, cat features, coloured skin, etc..

it. 704, Skatch and Snarx are touching the metal mech as they reach in for her.
GOLUM is standing back with his monocle raised looking at the MOOGIE now
hes opened it up for the rest of the krew, Blu beside him nervous and
pacing. The Ambient Walker has popped a transparent inflatable airbag to insulate
her and filling it with an protective fluid that starts to fill up like a fishbowl,
up to her waist already with a non-conducting protective fluid.

Panel 1. Large panel. Pull back from another angle, maybe aerial, to see the
Ambient Walker as it sends out an electric shock that fries most of Toy Death
that are touching it - Snarx (though hes not effected as much) , 704 and
Skatch. Snarx is touching the Mek buts not as hurt because of his thick
gene altered skin, though everyone else is shocked right to the hair line. Skatchs
the closest, his skeleton glows through his furry skin, all lit up like an x-ray,
hair spiking out, hes fried big time, smoke rising off his skin. 704s
the next closest, looking stunned and dropping his lazer-weapon, his exo-gloves
sparking and short circuiting. GOLUM and Blu are standing back watching
and are not hurt, though GOLUM has a pissed off look on his face and is
shielding his eyes with one arm, Blu behind him doing the same, the two of them
illuminated like silhouettes against the light. The electric shock short circuits
everyones holo-headsets and the like from here on in, though they may
be sparking in the next few panels intermittently.

body and linking the icons to parts of her body and the Ambient Walker with

futro fashion, air-masks and tekno revamped bubble helmets like in old 50s sci-fi,
hovering I-Spys and a rickshaw MEK goes by as he and GOLUM are absorbed
by the crowd, lost amongst all the bodies. Above and around the whole crowd
is a sea of visual holographic data from all the .NETS transmitting inphomation.
Visualize this like data on a screen, no boxes for the text, holo icons and
graphs, lines everywhere, all done in CG effects, no black line inks.

The MEKrickshaw passes and theyve gone, swallowed up. A fully smartsuited
black nun looking chick with robo-extensions around her joints and on mechanical
spring loaded Monster Bootz goes by in the foreground, flashing a peace
sign at the reader.

Panel 1. Establishing shot, large panel, from the back of the room looking at
GOLUM and Blu at the front interior entrance, a neon like holographic
sign above their head reads VIRTUAL ZONE . GOLUMs carrying
the body parts theyve salvaged from the MOOGIE in a hermetically sealed
zip-lock bag, like those used in hospitals for organ transfer. Maybe black with
a rounded look to it or transparent, with the parts showing like a goldfish
in a bag. Theyre walking down the main corridor of a future VRparlour;
were looking down a long lit up neon corridor between the VR machines.
The Virtual Zone is a real slum. Dirty, ratty look to everything.
Young kids and adults are hanging limply in a mesh of wires,a row of about twelve,
six either side,
full big alien like headsets and eye goggles, full haptic suits, like black
wetsuits with copper circuitry tracing the
muscle contours and washing over them, supporting them and then feeding back
up to the ceiling in their own
private cylindrical transparent tubings. Theyre thrashing around playing
VR games in the current legal state of the
art VR - the haptic suits. Some kids are pointing hands together like theyre
gripping invisible guns, others riding
invisible motorcycles, others all in various forms of play, hanging there from
the ceiling like trapped in circuitry spider
webs. Its also very bright in there - neon and everythings white tiles
walls, mirrors, the walls themselves are letting
off a light phorescence. Maybe shot from worms eye view down by the lit up floor.
The people in the haptic virtual suits have color coded holo stickers on their
heads, red for the most
violent, the gun games, yellow for medium level and green for safe games. A
holo sign explaining this hangs on the
wall or by the door in this or the next panel. The stickers are glowing pulsing
out light.

walked down the middle between the two rows of immersants and reached the back
door, which we see over their shoulders; rectangular but its a pneumatic
door about seven feet tall that open inwards like a portal, surrounded by a
neon like trim that glows phosphorescently. Next to it is a hovering octopoid
droid. GOLUMs looking nervously over his shoulder towards the viewer,
cigarette hanging from his lips, really frazzled like. Blus facing us,
looking back up at the kids hanging there in their haptic suits, looking dazed.

base that scans players for age. They have to show their ID which Blu does with

with a fez on, and very cheeky smile, like a mutated human-chimpanzee cross.
Eyes covered with bulging cybergoggle cameras like a WW2 pilot but hi-tek wiring
and cyber bits feeding back into its head. It bares its teeth and hisses
at them menacingly.

GOLUM> (shouts) ABOUT FUKIN TIME!
Panel 4. Close up on the goggles on the monkeys shrill face, teeth bared,
ready to attack. The goggles are cameras and we can see tiny reflections of
GOLUM and Blublu as Nemo talks to them.
MONGO> AH, FRIEND GOLUM. IVE BEEN EXPECTING YOU.

Panel 1. Close up on GOLUM and Blu on a screen on the other end of the
camera goggles, its Nemo watching them, the whole panel coloured red as
the screen is inside his bio-tek eye. GOLUM holds up the opaque bag with
the bio-tek in it, holding fast and looking intent, like hes done this
dozens of times before. Blus face has dropped and his mouth is open, in
shock. The screen fills the panel, datatrails down each side.
NEMO> CAPTION> I SKIMMED THE BUST ON THE Data.NETS , GOLUM,
DO YOU THINK IM STUPID? TOO OLD TO KEEP UP WITH THE NEWS? THE I-SPYS

monkey screeches and makes hand signals, waving his fist. They have to play

Panel 1. Theyre still walking down the kaleidoscope-tube like corridor,
well lit and smooth, white walls lit by their own phorescence. Rounded holo
overlays with speech balloon like hyperlink tails are pointing at various parts
of their bodies and scanning them, enlarging what theyre seeing there,
the rude mek cane, hands, eyes, nano mites embedded in the skin, hair, clothes.
Collectively the holos look like a molecular print or Kirby dna design.
GOLUM> HMMM? WELL RIGHT NOW NEMOS SPRAYING US 4 NANOS N ANY VIRUSES
THAT COULD COMPROMISE HIS IMMUNE SYSTEM. HES THE OLDEST MOOGIE ULL EVER C, REAL

Panel 2. Inside the tube again same as before but the holos have switched off
as theyre sprayed for bugs and mechanical devices, a cloud of spray enveloping
them from a nozzle in the ceiling. Microsized insect meks spiral around them
in a hazy sparking fine mist of nanos. Everythings hazy as theyre
scanned by hidden sensors. GOLUMs got his arms outstretched and
his legs spread like hes being strip searched. Blus coughing from
the gas spray. The Monkeys punching in the codes to the next door, beyond
the decompression chamber.
GOLUM> O, N FRIEND BLU? DONT LET HIM NEAR U. HES A PERVY OLD BUGGER.
Panel 3. Rounded, extreme close up holo box with another Data.NET, update,
showing a micro robot nano mite in a large holo box, filling the panel, the
legs of other mites around it and bits of them visible. They look like robot
locusts with camera eye-shells and spikey legs, cartoony smiley faces.

FORTY NINE (two panels)
Panel 1. Longshot. Nemos place is dark inside, a very high ceiling, austere
with shadows and dim lighting like an old Victorian playroom but very psyberdelic
and futro. The lighting is coming from floating Chinese lantern like balls of
luminescence as in the street shots outside. Theres well cushioned morph
bags - like transparent beanbags with coloured liquid like lava lamps inside
and dozens of octopus like suction cups all over them - here and there on the
floor. Its like a curio shop with things stacked everywhere. Toys everywhere,
this is where Toy Death got all their junk from for the squat. Old fashioned
ones, from the start of the 20th century right through to now, about 2023. Theres
a pogo stick and a scooter, a Twister mat hanging on a wall in the shadows.
A porcelain merry go-round style rocking horse, a giant blue stuffed monkey,
pinball machines, old Atari, tamagotchis and Furbies, wind up metal and wooden
toys, whatever kids toys you can think of mixed in with all sorts of curios
stacked on tables and on the floor and every nook and cranny. Rocking horses,
Tonka trucks, blackboards, stuffed animals and teddy bears, Barbie dolls and
action figures, spacecraft, swords, guns, laser sabres, spacehoppers, mini pool
table, dart board, and a few unrecognizable tekno glowing cyber toy whatzits.
A row of small hovering holoscreens, about six, are floating in the air around
Nemo. Hes watching
footage of Toy Deaths attack on the MOOGIE, all from Flaws POV,
extreme close ups of the MOOGIE on the
ground, her eye gouged out, a close up on the eye, metal bio-tek, on the knife,
on Blus face, on GOLUMs hands
as he takes the still wriggling eye off Blu, Flaw arriving, running and looking
back at Blu in a dark alley. Theres also
three or four slim bio-vats with bio-tek parts floating in liquid filled transparent
cylindrical tanks along one back wall,
though we may not be able to see them here in the shadows and all.
Nemos lying down on a skittling mech spiderbed with cushions, a doona
over the top like a round,
large Mek-Bed. Its round and the exterior ring is hard steel and circuitry though
it curves up at the back to prop him
up in bed. Hes smoking from an ornate Arabian like hookah pipe embedded
in the arm of one side of the bed-
mech, surrounded by small plumes of smoke, rainbow glittering smoke. Hes
126 and hes been living this long on
borrowed parts from the bio-tek black market. Hes so old his bodys
extended through cybernetics and organ
transplants. Hes got wizened skin with spots and circuitry threaded through
it like wrinkles, a skein of sensewear
like the Moogie had that monitors his health, one blood red mechanical eye with
a morphing bio-metal
communications faceplate that covers about a quarter of his face, changing shape
like mercury or rorsarch tests.
Thick ropey wires and cables connect him from the back of his skull to his chair-bed.
Hes incredibly frail and
skinny looking, like William Burroughs in his last years, dressed in a one piece
smartsuit that looks like stripped
pyjamas crossed with a DNB fashion, hooks and catches and modern cut to the
style, moving sapient bunny
slippers. Nemos on so many derms - theres round nipple like patches
all over his chest we can see when he leans
forward, also on his arms and going down his neck and up onto the back of his
skull, with thick transparent catheter
wires stringing around it like rope, connecting back in to his spiderMEK bed.
NEMO> WELL COME IN, COME IN, DONT JUST STAND THERE LIKE A STONED MULLET,
GOLUM.
Panel 2. Medium shot of NEMO smiling, his teeth all gleaming perfect new, not
his teeth at all, the most obvious thing on his wizened old face as he exhales
a thin, controlled stream of CG pixilated fractal rainbow smoke through his
nose. The teeth are mechanical and brass looking. He welcomes his GOLUM
and the new boy in.
NEMO> INTRODUCE ME TO THE NEW BOY, THEN...

Panel 1. From behind, GOLUM and Blus head level looking up type
shot at Nemo as his spider-chair-bed skittles towards them and starts lowering
down to their level. The holoscreens around him go grey static as he turns the
pics off, though theyre still hovering there in the background from here
on in all the next panels, where visible. Nemos eying Blu and licking
his lips as he talks to GOLUM, closer to the chair than Blu, whos
holding back a bit, behind GOLUM, scared. Objects lying around here include
Electric Afros all lit up like electricity spheres, robo-teeth and typewriter
turtles.
Nemo talks like Steven Hawking through a voicechip in his throat, visible like
a computer chip. Both
of the monkeys are fluttering around his shoulders. The chair is a sapient aware
MEK, too, thats caught morphing
shape in this and all the next panels, becoming less bed like and smaller, more
compact, like a spiderwheelchair that
skittles about everywhichway.
GOLUM> NEMO, THIS IS FRIEND BLUBLU, HES HANGING W/ THE KREW. THIS IS
HIS FIRST RUN, NOW B NICE.
NEMO> ARENT I NICE TO ALL MY BOYS?
Panel 2. Nemos down at their level now, same size shot as before with
GOLUM and Blu from behind as we focus on the bed as it lowers hydraulically
and turns around for him to get close, transformed into the spiderMEK.
NEMO> DONT I GIVE YOU PRETTY THINGS, AND TOYS, AND LOOK AFTER YOU,
HEY? AND I ASK FOR SO LITTLE IN RETURN...Panel 3. Tight shot as Nemo leans in
and grabs Blu by the chin, both of them on profile, his hands motorized claws
digging into Blus chin, indenting the skin slightly as he makes him look
up into his eyes, and smiles, his liquid rorsarch tek faceplate flowing into
a different shape.
NEMO> MY, WHAT BRIGHT EYES YOU HAVE...
BLU> FUK OFF...Panel 4. GOLUM steps in and grabs Nemos withered
mek hand and takes it off Blu. Hes holding up the bag with the bio-parts
in it in his other hand.
GOLUM> THIS IS BIZNESS, NOT PLEAZURE, NEMO.Panel 5. Medium shot. Nemos
eyes narrow and he takes a step back in the spiderMEK, motioning to the genemonkeys
to grab the bag.

Extreme close up on their shrill screaming faces. Theyre the same as the
ones theyve been wearing but now the lenses are filled with all black
and white hypnagogic patterns like the ones from the ads in comics, yet they
work.

3. Extreme close up of the bag illuminated like an X-ray to see whats
inside - an organic bio-tek eye laced with circuitry, still wriggling, with
mechanical gears and gizmos visible in the x-ray light, surrounded by bits of
flesh and tissue all silhouetted black.

Panel 4. One monkey flies and drops the bag in the bubbling bio-tanks in the
shadows. In the background GOLUM and Nemo are talking the talk, Blu starting
to wander round and look at the junk all about.

He puts the rest of the pieces in there, a moon and a circle.

ON A LEAKY BOAT...Panel 6. He snaps back into lucidity quick enough. Mean, lizard
like eyes looking down at Blu and GOLUM. The ball hes holding lights
up from within now its complete. Canny old bugger. Hes still a kid,
but a dark and twisted one, his face all smiling and contorted with glee.
NEMO> BUT WHAT DO YOU CARE? YO URE JUST A CHILD, A BEAUTIFUL CHILD.
GROWING UP TOO FAST AND TOO SMART, LIKE YOU ALL DO THESE DAYS. ATTENTION SPANS
LIKE SPARKS AND ADDICTED TO DATA. PAGE FIFTY THREE (five panels)
Panel 1. Pull back to see Nemos hookah attached to the bed-mek as its
lit up by the other monkey, heated from underneath with a black mini half sphere.
Its glowing red hot - especially the outer ring - and is heating the hookah.
With a free hand Nemo takes a crystal like shard - a BIO-CHIP from a small fist
sized black pouch with drawstrings. Theyre like computer disks of the
future, what they breed the algorithmic programs like PLAY on. PLAY CHIPZ contain
an algorithm that replicates intense DMT secretions in the brain, ideation goes
off the scale for short periods and is projected onto their visual field like
VR. Combined with their trepanning it makes for an unbeatable digital high.

at Blu ,who catches it, an expectant look on his face. In Nemos other
hand is a single CHIP, hes holding it carefully between his thumb and
forefinger.

Panlel 3. The panel starts to shimmer and change, Photoshop filter GUASSIAN
BLUR. Its turning into a fractal pixilated gas as it enters his lungs
and his eyes go all clear and open wide.
NO DIALOGUEPanel 4. SPLASH. Nemos rolling back in his skittlechair, lost
in his chemical immersion- the PLAY, coming on strong. Hes smoking the
PLAY and exhaling it and everythings going fantastical with Photoshop
filters warping the art and the imagination being unleashed. When Nemo exhales
all these pixilated rainbow smoke dragons start morphing out, and creatures,
anything he can imagine. Its what the PLAY does, short bursts of ideation that
only people on the same chips can see. Hes languidly exhaling very old
imagery, Victorian imagination stuff, like from Little Nemo in Slumberland.
Cloud banks with little black pygmies carrying spears, lions, bats, the flying
monkeys screeching around amongst it all. Stars and crescent moons sparkling
around the panel borders all merging, its been the PLAY all along hovering
in the panel borders since they entered Nemos room. Hes talking
